MAIL ART

Post aus ... ("Mail from ...") was a long time mailart project from 2015 to 2021. It was my way to connect to a city, my collectors, an audience and to embrace a new place through my work during my nomadic years.

I would send miniature drawings or prints made on journeys for my work. The idea came about in 2015 when I had a groupshow in Paris where I showed sketches on paper and took them off the wall as a performance to send them as mail from Paris. The recipients of the mail did not know what they ordered beforehand. This project brought a lot of joy to everyone involved. Many people ordered every year or asked me to send some mail as surprise for friends, family or colleagues.

The Editions included: Paris/France (2015), Wroclaw/Poland (2016), Vienna/Austria (2017), Chongqing/China (2018), Colombo/Sri Lanka (2019), quarantine in Berlin/ Germany (2020), Tallinn/ Estonia (2021)

THE BEAUTY OF FAILURE, 2019, MIXED MEDIA INSTALLATION, VARIABLE SIZE

Planned as a sculptural large-scale painting, the work did not turn out as planned. I had experimented with many forms and folding techniques during my "Rausch" themed residency for Begehungen art festival in Chemnitz. The work should be an inverting garland which could be collapsed into relatively flat layers of squares. I had it all thought through, did models, test foldings, painted dummies. Then I painted 1000 x 140 cm of my material - from both sides, before I did a test folding in real size.

The installation tells the story of my failure- with screenshots taken from my real time Instagramstory and printed on Aludibond and the painted material shown as an exhibit accompanying the story.
